As President of Shopzilla, Inc., Bill Glass is responsible for business strategy and vision as well as day-to-day management of the company’s global operations. Bill joined Shopzilla in March 2004 and has served various roles including Vice President, Operations, Senior Vice President, Consumer Product and Chief Operating Officer before being appointed President in February 2007. Bill was instrumental in igniting the company’s cash flow growth of over 300 percent in 2005 and played a pivotal role in the sale of Shopzilla to the E.W. Scripps Company in June of the same year. Infusing a collaborative culture through the democracy and transparency of All Company Meetings and constant communication, Bill has enabled Shopzilla’s continued success amidst the challenges of hyper-growth, volatile marketplace dynamics and challenging economic headwinds.
Bill’s strategy for the next volume of Shopzilla history focuses on an obsession with customer happiness and the belief that shopping online is still far more frustrating than it ought to be. He is committed to the philosophy that “it’s not just the technology that matters; it’s how we leverage that technology to build products and foster relationships that inspire both consumers and retailers.”
Before joining Shopzilla, Bill spent three years serving in various executive-level product management and operations capacities at Vivendi Universal’s Internet Division (VUNet). Most recently, he was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Flipside, the online games network within VUNet, where he oversaw all facets of the business unit, including advertising sales, online marketing, product management and technology development. Bill joined Flipside as a result of Vivendi’s acquisition of Prize Central Networks, a San Francisco-based online games property, where Bill served as Vice President of Product Development from 1999 through 2001. Earlier in his career, Bill spent four years in technology project management and operations at Electronic Data Systems in Los Angeles.
Bill holds an MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at San Diego.
When he’s not heading the charge to make the world of online shopping better, Bill can either be found in Santa Monica where he lives with his wife and two daughters or on the green, where he enjoys playing golf whenever he can.
